Being awarded by Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is like a blessing for graduate students who are pursuing research-based Master’s or doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics field. This fellowship offered by the National Science Foundation is a tight competition. The requirements of the application is detail and meticulous. The evaluation of the application involves various stages such as:

The panel is the one responsible to evaluate the merit of eligible GRFP application. Each panel then applies the NSF Board-approved Merit Review Criteria of Intellectual Merit and Broader Impacts. They then recommend applicants for NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP). There will be panelists who review the applications holistically in the context of applying the NSF’s Merit Review Criteria and the GRFP. The applications with the emphasis on demonstrated potential for significant achievement in science and engineering are likely to be selected.

However, it is still NSF who determines the successful applicants. Of course NSF use the recommendations from the panelists who have reviewed the applications before. Then, the process is continued to fellowship offer made by NSF. Only then applicants are able to view verbatim panelist’s comments. Of course, the name of the reviewers will be excluded. The applicants can view their application result of review through the NSF GRFP Fastlane website. Then, applicants will be notified within six months regarding to the award administration information.
